Both Craig and myself have always
had dogs when we lived at home with our parents in Bishop Auckland, County
Durham. We decided that we needed
a dog once we moved in together but we couldn't decide what we wanted.
A good friend of ours had a bulldog
but due to his expanding business, no longer had the time to spend with him, so
was looking for a good home for his baby.
As soon as we saw Brogan (aged 2
1/2) we decided that he had to come and live with us. From this day, our
love of bulldogs was born and has just grown and grown!! Brogan is now 7
years old and is still as cheeky as the day we got him!
In January 2006 we decided we needed
a new addition to our family and went in search of a puppy. On hearing
from another good friend Joanne that she knew someone selling bulldog puppies,
we arranged a visit to Geoff and Marjorie Pearson at
ALLGAS Kennels in
Darlington, and from the moment we saw Grace, we fell head over heels in love.
It didn't matter that she was the first and only puppy we saw, it was love at
first sight!!
We weren't sure whether showing dogs
was "our thing" so we visited a few shows to get an idea of what we would have
to do. After the first show we went to, we decided that showing would be
good fun. Luckily Geoff had said that Grace was good enough to show, and
as you will see from her show results, he was right!
We found starting out at dog shows
was very hard but worth it! We found a Ring Craft class in Newton Aycliffe but didn't
have a clue how to stand a bulldog or what we had to do. We were very
lucky that Paul and Angela from
BULLDURHAM kennels
were also there with their
little bulldogs Rosie and Ruby. Paul and Angela helped us with how to
stand Grace properly and how to go about finding and entering shows.
We can't thank them enough for their help, guidance and advice, which they
kindly continue to give today. (I'm not sure we would still actually be
doing this if it wasn't for them.)!
We decided to apply for a kennel
name and it took months to come up with a list of just 4 names! We didn't
get our first choice but are more than happy with SWEETFEET BULLDOGS.
The name came about when one of our friends who visited regularly when Grace was
a puppy, always said she had sweet feet, which was good enough for us!
A big thank you to Joanne who helped
us find Grace, we wouldn't have her without you!!
And a bigger thank you to Geoff and
Margorie for letting us have Grace.
